Readings, Performances, and News Flashes

(I added 'news flashes' to sound dashing; I don't want to mislead you -- nothing here, naturally, is too flashy or urgent or important.)

1) I have a piece on Slate: http://www.slate.com/id/2124593/

2) Friday, August 26th, 9:30 pm, I will be performing a bunch of my monologues as part of the Howl Festival. This will take place at the new downtown nightclub and restaurant: Mo Pitkin's, 34 Avenue A (between 3rd and 2nd, closer to 3rd).
212-777-5660. Go to www.mopitkins.com for more information. Ticket Price:$12. Tickets available at www.ticketweb.com. I imagine you can also buy tickets at Mo's, but I'm not entirely sure. I will be the only act and I'll probably perform for about an hour.

3)Saturday, August 20th, at 7pm, I will be answering questions at the Pioneer Theater after the screening of the "One Ring Zero" documentary by Joe Pacheco, which is called "As Smart as They Are." The screening starts at six. For details go to www.twoboots.com/pioneer. That same night I will be on Air America on the Laura Flanders Show from 9:15 to 10, talking about the Howl Festival. Go to: http://shows.airamericaradio.com/lauraflanders/

4)Tuesday August 23rd and Wednesday August 24th, I will be on the Jack E. Jett television show, which I believe is called "Queer Edge." Go to www.qtelevision.com for details. I'm not sure what's going to happen, but on the second night, my friend, Patrick Bucklew, will be joining me on the show. This show is taped in Fort Worth, TX but is a national show.

5) Wednesday, August 31, 7:30, I will be back at Mo's as part of a group show. For more info go to: www.howtokickpeople.com

6) Saturday, September 10th, I will be reading at a fundraiser for Freebird Books, a great used bookstore in Brooklyn. For details go to: www.freebirdbooks.com

7) Tuesday, September 13th, 7pm, I will be reading at KGB Bar 85 East 4th Street, between Second and Third Avenues. I will be reading with Jill Soloway, who has just come out with her wonderful first book of essays: Tiny Ladies in Shiny Pants. Jill is a writer and producer for Six Feet Under. Check out her website at: www.jillsoloway.com

8) Tuesday, September 27th, 10pm, I will be debuting the "The Jonathan Ames Show" at Mo Pitkin's. It's going to be a variety/talk show sort of thing. I'll have comedians, music . . . I'll do a monologue or a skit . . . and I'll interview a few artists, writers, performers . . . It will be a sort of downtown David Letterman/Dick Cavett affair . . . I'll be doing this the last Tuesday of September, October and November, and if it goes well I may continue it in 2006. My friend, Patrick Bucklew, will be my Ed MacMahon, though his head will be encased in a bowl and his reactions will be solely facial and not verbal. He'll also be naked, though there will be an interesting, protective cod-piece in front of his loins. At my urging he will be debuting a new cod-piece, not the Mangina. It will be more in the planty family as opposed to the genital family.

9) My novel Wake Up, Sir! is out in paperback.

10) My friend Richard Sandler has a show of his photography up. He's a great, great artist. Please check it out at:The Phatory LLC, 618 East 9th Street (between Avenues B and C),New York, NY 10009 Hours: Thursday, 7:30 - 10 P.M. Friday, 7:30 - 10 P.M. 11)There's a really nice article in The Stranger, Seattle's alt-weekly, recommending my novels Wake Up, Sir! and The Extra Man as books that might help you not commit suicide: http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=22639

12) Thank you for reading all these various strange announcements!
